EL PASO, Texas —The UTEP rifle team kicks off the 2012-13 season ranked 13th in the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) preseason poll.

The Miners ended the 2011-12 season fifth at the NCAA Championship after firing a team 4648. Head coach George Brenzovich led UTEP to finish ahead of Nevada (eighth) at the championship, which ranks ninth on the preseason list.

Texas Christian University tops the list after claiming the 2012 NCAA title. Kentucky, West Virginia, Alaska Fairbanks and United States Military Academy round out the top five, respectively.

Fourteen coaches from the NCAA vote on the CRCA poll. UTEP received 132 votes, just behind United States Air Force Academy with 136.

With the 2012-13 season slated to begin on Oct. 13 against Nevada, UTEP faces seven of the top-10 programs on the CRCA list.
