El Paso, Texas - The UTEP rifle team will take part in the 2012 National Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championship, as announced by the NCAA Rifle Committee on Wednesday afternoon. The individuals selected to participate will be announced on Thursday.

The championships will take place March 9-10 at the Converse Hall and French Field House on the Ohio State campus in Columbus, Ohio.

The Miners will be in a field with Alaska-Fairbanks, Army, Jacksonville State, Kentucky, Nevada, TCU, and West Virginia.

UTEP faced four of those teams this year beating Alaska-Fairbanks and Nevada two times each.

“As a coach, the NCAA dream selection is our driving force. The achievement recognized in the selection and the upcoming matches is our goal,” said head coach George Brenzovich. “We deserve to be there, no one has worked harder, with five am training, every win was  a checkmark of progress, every loss a motivational wake up call, their academic demands in balance and personal life in order. It's tough being a student-athlete but our student-athletes have dug deep like no other UTEP Rifle team has.”

Individual and team competitions in smallbore three-position (60 shots) will be held Friday, March 9. Individual and team competitions in air rifle (60 shots) will be held Saturday, March 10. The overall team champion will be determined by combining the smallbore and air rifle team total scores into one aggregate score for each institution.
