UTEP Rifle Ranked Fourth Nationally After Tournament Win

El Paso, Texas - The UTEP rifle team is now ranked fourth in the nation after their win in the Withrow Tournament this weekend in Murray, Kent. The Miners came out on top amongst six teams with a combined team score of 4660.

Alix Moncada (585), Andrea Vautrin (582) and Jennifer Amrendariz (576) finished in the top-10 in smallbore finishing second, fourth, and sixth respectively. Andrea Palafox fired a 573 for the Miners. Hannah Muegge (572) and Korina Rodriguez (564) rounded out the smallbore scoring for the Miners.

Moncada and Vautrin also finished in the top-10 in air rifle after they both shot a 587. Armendariz and Palafox each posted a 585 in air gun for the tournament. Rodriguez (574) and Muegge (573) also fired air rifle for the Miners.

As a team UTEP shot an aggregate of 2344 in air rifle and 2316 in smallbore.

The win sealed a fourth place ranking for the Miners, which is the highest rank ever for a UTEP rifle team. (1) TCU, (2) Kentucky and (3) West Virginia are in the top three ahead of the Miners.

"Our team is hungry, working very hard and maintaining focus, clearly the best Rifle team in the UTEP rifle history," said UTEP head coach George Brenzovich.

The Miners travel to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on Air Force on Saturday Feb. 4.
