EL PASO, Texas - Senior Korina Rodriguez fired a team-best aggregate of 1146 (572-574) while highly-touted freshman Rachael Schoenrock buoyed her at 1136 (562-574) but visiting Nevada upended short-handed UTEP, 4597-4465, at the UTEP rifle range Saturday afternoon.

It marked the first competition for the year for George Brenzovich's charges. Given the fact that Korina Rodriguez was the lone returnee to shoot on the day, it's certainly a good result. Once UTEP has its full complement of shooters, it appears that it will be in for a very solid season.

Freshman Jessica Rodriguez produced the third-best score for the Orange and Blue on the day at 1101 (548-554) while fellow classmate Jasmine Juarez checked in at 1081 (523-558).  Also making her collegiate debut was Monthserrat Serna, who finished at 1045 (505-540).

Another freshman, Jessica Kinder, was in on the efforts in the air rifle by firing a very solid score of 540.

Korina Rodriguez and Schoenrock shared the top score in the match for the air rifle at 574. Rodriguez had opened the day with a readout of 572 in the smallbore, followed closely by Schoenrock's 562.

The Miners will vie to build on the season-opening effort when they play host to Air Force on both Nov. 19 and 20.
