UTEP Fires Its Second-Best Score Of Season In Four-Way Match

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The UTEP rifle team showed good form by firing its second-best total (4540) on the year in a four-way match at the Hugh w. Wylie Range Saturday. No. 1 Kentucky topped the field (4688), followed by host & #9 Ohio State (4623), the Miners (4540) and the Rose Hulman Institute of Technology (4408).

UTEP has now topped 4500 for three straight matches and five times on the season. It did so three times total during the 2011-12 campaign. The Orange and Blue recorded a score of 2229 in the smallbore while setting a season-high in the air rifle  (2311).

Senior Korina Rodriguez set the tone for the Miners with her third-best score of her career (575-585-1160) while freshman Rachael Schoenrock (559-5780-1137) used a big effort in the air rifle to buoy her.

Fellow newcomer Jasmine Juarez (556-575-1131) enjoyed a career day (prior best 1108).

Jessica Kinder also excelled in the air rifle (539-573-1112) while Areli Oros fired her fifth-highest sum (524-546-1070) since joining the Orange and Blue.

UTEP will return to El Paso and get back to work at the range in preparation for its next match at Murray State on Jan. 25.
