UTEP Women's Golf Coach Jere Pelletier announced that Maria Velasco has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Miners starting with the 2012-13 season.

"We're really excited that Maria is coming here," Pelletier said. "Her game is more mature than most incoming freshmen, and we think she'll be an asset to our program right away."

A native of Oviedo, Spain, Velasco is ranked no. 76 among juniors in her home country. She recorded a 76.8 stroke average in 45 rounds of competition her junior year (2010-11).
