The UTEP women's golf team finished 14th at its first tournament of the season, the Colonel Wallenberg Ram Classic on Tuesday in Fort Collins, Colo.

Texas Tech was champion of the 17-team tournament (289-286-285-860). UTEP shot 929 (302-314-313) led by Camino Sardinero, who carded a 15-over-par 231 (73-81-77).

"We're a young team and didn't play too well," UTEP coach Jere Pelletier said. "We played well in spurts, but our main problem is we're not finishing off the rounds really well. We're playing well for 15 holes and making some bad mistakes in the last three, and it's reflected in the scores."

Nathalie Castillo tied for 52nd place (78-75-79-232), Emma Edin (74-80-80-234) and Maria Velasco (79-78-77-234) tied for 58th place, and Emma Burman tied for 84th place (77-90-82-249).

The Miners will next participate in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Albuquerque.
