UTEP seniors Natasha Lacy and Izabela Piekarska were chosen in the 2008 WNBA Draft on Wednesday afternoon, becoming the first players in program history to be selected. Stanford's Candice Wiggins tied a school record with 44 points against UTEP Monday in the second round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Miners couldn't do much against red hot Wiggins, but Izabela Piekarska had 17 points and eight rebounds for NCAA newcomer UTEP (28-4), which had won 24 of its last 25 games. more [+] |

The No. 23/25 UTEP women's basketball team will take on No. 4/4 Stanford in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at approximately 8:30 p.m. MST on Monday at Maples Pavilion. The game will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the California/George Washington tilt, a 6 p.m. MST tilt. The Miners, the seventh seed in the region, advanced into the round of 32 with an 92-60 triumph against Western Kentucky while second-seeded Stanford did so courtesy of an 85-47 drubbing of 15th-seeded Cleveland State. more [+] |
