UTEP To Face ULM In Championship Contest Of UTEP Thanksgiving Classic

EL PASO, TEXAS- The championship contest of the third-annual UTEP Thanksgiving Classic will pit the host UTEP Miners (3-2) against ULM (4-1)  at 8 p.m. at the Don Haskins Center on Saturday evening.

 

UTEP advanced to the title game by downing Weber State, 70-58. Senior point guard Jareica Hughes became the program's all-time leading scorer in the game. She was one of four Miners to finish in double digits as UTEP secured its second straight wire-to-wire victory.

 

ULM secured its spot in the championship game after holding off Youngstown State, 76-67, in the night cap on Friday evening. Priscilla Mbiandja scored 18 of her career-high 25 points in the second half

 

The Warhawks led by as many as 17 points in the second half, but the Penguins wouldn’t go away quietly as they got to within five, 60-55, with 4:50 remaining in the game. It was after the four minute media timeout that Mbiandja took the Warhawks on her back and scored nine of their 16 points down the stretch.


 

 

 

WSU will square off against Youngstown State in the third/fourth-place game at 5:30 p.m.
