EL PASO, TEXAS – UTEP women’s basketball assistant coach Ewa Laskowska will be inducted into the Independence Community College Hall of Fame on Saturday. She was a two-time NJCAA All-American and Kodak All-American while starring for the Lady Pirates’ women’s basketball team from 1995-97, helping the squad post a combined record of 56-15. Laskowska also achieved success as a coach at ICC, serving as the team’s top assistant from 1998 through 2000-01.

“It is a huge privilege to being inducted to the ICC Hall of Fame,” Laskowska said. “It was a great experience for me as a player and coach to be part of championships teams at ICC. Getting all the individual awards (All-American teams, MVP, All Conference) and others was great but the induction is more special because it is about the people who were and are at ICC.  I am honored that the people there remember and care enough to nominate me and voted for me to be in the special group of 10 now.”

Laskowska earned a pair of all-region and all-conference honors while also being an academic All-American and receiving the Jim Goodman “Fans Favorite” award. During the famed 1995-96 season in which ICC finished second in the nation with a record of 34-4, she was chosen as the most valuable player at the NJCAA Region VI Tournament and was named to the all-tournament team at the NJCAA Championships.

UTEP head coach Keitha Adams certainly knows the caliber of player that Laskowska was, considering Adams was on staff at ICC during both years of her career. Adams then hired Laskowska onto her staff as her top assistant, and the duo has now worked together for 13 years.

“It is quite an honor for Coach Ewa to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame,” Adams said. “I’m very happy for her and very appreciative to ICC. She was an exceptional player, who helped us get to national championship when we were 34-4 her freshman year. I was very privileged to coach her, and she has been a great  coach for me.”

Laskowska and the other inductees will partake in a luncheon in the Fireside Room on ICC Campus at 11 a.m. MT Saturday. The induction ceremony will take place at the halftime of the ICC vs. Butler game, with a reception following.
