Vitola Honored With C-USA Spirit of Service Award

EL PASO, TEXAS – UTEP Women’s basketball senior standout Kristine Vitola will receive the Winter Conference USA Spirit of Service award, the league office revealed Wednesday afternoon. One student-athlete from each of the full-time members of C-USA secured the honor, which is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

The Spirit of Service Award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing Conference USA's winter sports: men's and women's basketball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field

Vitola concluded her career with the Miners as the school record holder for games played (134), while also becoming only the third player in program history to boast 900+ points (941), 600+ rebounds (614) and 100+ blocks (190).

UTEP posted a 93-42 record during her career, marking the second-most wins by a player in school history. In addition to starting all 36 games during this season’s run to the WNIT finals, Vitola has already logged 24 hours of community service this year. A native of Riga, Latvia, she has volunteered at the Diabetes Walk and made numerous appearances at elementary schools. Vitola is a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
