On the heels of becoming the first team in league history to go unbeaten in Conference USA play, UTEP elevated into a program-best 18th with a school-record 367 points in the Associated Press top-25 poll released on Monday.

The Miners, 25-2, 16-0 C-USA, are in the midst of preparations for the upcoming C-USA tournament in Orlando, Fla. UTEP, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, will take on the winner of Rice/East Carolina at 6 p.m. MST on Friday. The game will be broadcast locally in El Paso on KHRO 1650 AM.

The Orange and Blue had been 19th in the poll, but two more victories to push their unbeaten streak to 21 games, coupled with some losses by teams ahead of them, allowed them to vault up.

Prior to this season, the Miners had only received votes in the AP poll on one occasion- three points the week of Jan. 3, 2007- but all of that has changed in the past month and a half. UTEP picked up 18 points in the Jan. 21 poll to rank 30th in the country. The sum improved to 33 to place 29th the following week, before swelling to 86 points and a tie for 26th on Feb. 4. UTEP finally cracked the poll-for the initial time in program annals- on Feb. 11.
