Coach Keitha Adams:
(Opening statement) "We are enjoying our time in California. I cannot say enough how proud I am of our team I thought we came out and just played really well for 40 minutes. Was a little concerned how we played early in the game. We had not played a ball game in 2 weeks. One thing I know about these ladies is that they were very motivated and fired up. I thought we came out and played very aggressive and had a tremendous team effort."
(Dealing with Stanford’s crowd on Monday) "We were in settings similar to this. This young group is ready to compete no matter where or when. We got a great point guard in Jareica and she will call out the plays and her teammates will echo her. We have worked through that. We have prepared for that. We know it will be a very loud, enthusiastic crowd. We will be fine."
(on the run they made in the end of the first half) "One thing about our team is when we get our running game going we can be pretty explosive. We got that going then we hit some threes. When you put that combination of running it and taking it to the basket and getting fast breaks, and then dropping the three point shot. Our offense was running on all cylinders. We got some great momentum and I thought we did a great job in the second half in keeping that focus and gradually increasing it."
(on playing Stanford) "The one thing we have done all year is that we have focused on who we were playing. We have totally prepared for Western Kentucky. In tournament time that is how it is, you have to completely focus on whom you are playing. There’s no question they are a tremendous team. We will watch film and get a game plan and take on a very good team in Stanford."
(on first NCAA appearance) "Throughout the year people have wondered how our team was going to handle getting in the top 25 for the first time. We had some big wins and people were wondering when we were going to stub our toe. This group is very confident and they have experience in big tournaments. They have great focus and what it does for our program is that it legitimizes that we are a top 25 team. We held that ranking for 4 to 5 weeks and it showed that we truly deserved that. I thought we played very well together and very unselfishly."
Natasha Lacy (On next game against Stanford):"We are excited to play again. We were in the locker room and the seniors were saying how they did not want this to be their last game. We will do our scouting and our homework on Stanford. We watched them play a little bit and they have a great guard in Candice Wiggins and they have Pederson down in the post. We will see how it goes on Monday."
