Miertschin Leads UTEP on Day One of William H. Tucker

El Paso native Devin Miertschin fired a one-over-par 145 over 36 holes of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday in Albuquerque, leading the UTEP Miners in their second tournament of the fall season.

Miertschin carded rounds of 73 and 72 to tie for 11th place among individuals heading into the final day of competition Saturday. He birdied two holes in the first round and five in the second, including four on the front nine.

UTEP is in ninth place with rounds of 299 and 298 for a total of 597. Host New Mexico heads up the 14-team field (283-285-568).

The Miners' Martin Simonsen is tied for 32nd place (75-74-149), Ross Rotwein is tied for 44th place (76-75-151), Roberto Ruiz is tied for 51st place (75-77-152), Jere Pelletier is tied for 64th place (78-77-155), and Ian Patterson is in 84th place (83-83-166).
