UTEP's Simonsen Earns Individual Selection to NCAA Championship

UTEP golfer Martin Simonsen, the 2012 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, has merited an invitation to the 2012 NCAA Championship. Simonsen will compete as an individual in Norman, Okla. at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club May 17-19.
Simonsen will join Nevada's Kevin Lucas, Stephen F. Austin's Mitchell McLeroy, Nebraska's Scott Willman and UALR's Alfred Kerstis in Norman, along with the following teams: Texas, Georgia Tech, Washington, Florida State, Oklahoma, St. Mary's (California), Illinois, Middle Tennessee, South Carolina, San Diego, Arizona, Sacramento State, Indiana/Purdue-Indianapolis and Loyola Chicago.
The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Simonsen has participated in seven tournaments for the Miners this season, all during the spring portion of the schedule. He has been UTEP's top finisher five times, took fourth place at the Conference USA Championship and has a 72.3 scoring average.
