UTEP's Simonsen Named C-USA Men's Golf Freshman of the Year

UTEP's Martin Simonsen has been appointed the Conference USA Men's Golf Freshman of the Year. He is also a second team All-League selection and a member of the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

A native of Gistrup, Denmark, Simonsen made his Miner debut at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 30-31 in Tucson, Ariz. Simonsen played in all seven of UTEP's spring tournaments and was the team's top finisher five times, including taking fourth place at the C-USA Championship. He currently has a 72.3 stroke average and is expected to land an individual bid to NCAA Regionals on May 7.

Joining Simonsen on the C-USA All-Freshman squad are Houston's Roman Robledo, SMU's Sam Fidone, Tulsa's Matt Mabrey and UAB's Paul Dunne.
