UTEP Men's Golf in Ninth After Round One of C-USA Championship

The UTEP men's golf team extended its season-long streak of sub-300 rounds to six on Sunday, but the Miners are in ninth place through 18 holes of the Conference USA Championship in Texarkana, Texas.

UTEP shot 297 on Sunday, with the second and third rounds to be played on Monday and Tuesday. Memphis heads up the 11-team field (282), followed by SMU (284), Marshall (286), UCF (290), UAB & Houston (292), East Carolina (295), Southern Miss (296), UTEP, Tulsa (301) and Rice (309).

Miner freshman Martin Simonsen is tied for 10th place with an even-par 72, putting him four strokes behind Memphis' Jack Belote and SMU's Max Buckley, who are tied for the individual lead (68) in a field of 55 golfers.

Another UTEP freshman, Jere Pelletier, is tied for 20th place (73). Jerry Castrellon and Luke Ovenden are tied for 36th place (76), and Ross Rotwein is tied for 47th place (79).
