Men's Golf Tied For Sixth Through 18 at Jim West Intercollegiate

Martin Simonsen fired an even-par 72, leading the UTEP men's golf team on day one of the Jim West Intercollegiate on Sunday in Victoria, Texas.

The Miners shot 295 as a team, putting them in sixth place with two rounds to play. The tournament continues through Tuesday.

Stephen F. Austin leads the 12-team field with 284.

UTEP's Devin Miertschin is tied for 16th place (73), Jere Pelletier is tied for 21st place (74), Luke Ovenden is tied for 46th place (76) and Jerry Castrellon is in 69th place (87). The Miners' David Persons, competing as an individual, is tied for 21st place (74).
