UTEP Men's Golf Shoots 614 on First Day of Hackler Championship

The UTEP men's golf team fired a 614 team score over the first 36 holes of the General Hackler Championship on Monday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Miners are in eighth place out of 11 teams heading into Tuesday's final round. UTEP scored rounds of 298 and 316 while battling a field that features four top-50 programs.

No. 17 Arkansas is in first place (582), with no. 23 Kent State in second (584), no. 29 Tennessee in third (589) and no. 48 Coastal Carolina in fourth (605).

UTEP's Martin Simonsen is in the hunt for the individual title after carding an even-par 144 (73-71) on Monday. He is tied for third place, three strokes back of the leader, Arkansas' Thomas Sorensen (68-73-141).

The Miners' Jerry Castrellon (70-85-155) and Ryan Fioretti (77-78-155) are tied for 31st place, Devin Miertschin is tied for 48th place (78-83-161) and Jacob Loya is tied for 56th place (80-84-164).
