UTEP Men's Golf Places Fifth at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

The UTEP men's golf team notched its third top-five showing in four tournaments this fall, placing fifth at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate on Tuesday in Las Cruces.

The Miners fired 877 (289-285-303) as a team at the 54-hole tourney.

Host NM State (283-289-286-858), Colorado State (289-286-289-864), Northern Colorado (286-295-290-871) and Wichita State (299-292-285-876) made up the top four at the 17-team event.

Leading UTEP was Martin Simonsen, who shot a one-over-par 214 (73-67-74) to land in eighth place. Jere Pelletier tied for 20th place (72-72-75-219), Roberto Ruiz tied for 22nd place (72-73-75-220), Frederik Dreier (72-73-80-225) and Jacob Loya (75-75-75-225) tied for 49th place, Prescott Mann tied for 67th place (74-76-79-229) and Ian Patterson tied for 74th place (75-75-81-231). Loya and Patterson were competing as individuals.

The Miners will host the Price's Give 'Em Five Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 25-26) at Butterfield Trail Golf Club, their only home tournament of the season.
