UTEP freshman Martin Simonsen finished in fourth place and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team at the Conference USA Championship on Tuesday in Texarkana, Texas.

The Miners, wrapping up their 2011-12 season, finished in 10th place with a score of 898 (297-299-302).

"We started gaining some confidence and momentum as the year went on, and I'm excited about next year," UTEP coach Scott Lieberwirth said. "The freshmen [Simonsen and Jere Pelletier] played well for us. They'll come back strong. We're just looking for a few other guys to get their game in better shape and we can be contending at most tournaments."

Memphis won the 11-team event, shooting 859 (282-289-288).

Simonsen carded a four-under-par 212 (72-67-73), putting him four strokes behind champion Greg Eason of UCF (70-68-70-208).

"Martin played a great tournament again," Lieberwirth said. "He really played good, steady golf towards the end of the season."

Memphis' Jack Belote (68-71-70-209) and SMU's Max Buckley (68-72-69-209) tied for second place.

UTEP's Jere Pelletier tied for 21st place (73-75-73-221), Jerry Castrellon (76-80-78-234) and Ross Rotwein (79-77-78-234) tied for 47th place, and Luke Ovenden tied for 53rd place (76-83-81-240).

Simonsen now has a 72.3 stroke average in seven tournaments this season and will likely earn an individual bid to NCAA Regionals when the field is announced on May 7.
