UTEP Men's Golf Team Takes Ninth at General Hackler Championship

The UTEP men's golf team landed in ninth place at the General Hackler Championship on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Miners registered a team score of 929 with rounds of 298, 316 and 315 respectively.
There was a tie atop both the team and individual leaderboards. Due to time constraints, a playoff was not permissible. Arkansas (283-299-291-873) and Kent State (296-288-289-873) tied for the team title at the 11-team event, while Kent State's Taylor Pendrith and Tennessee's Oliver Goss both carded a one-under-par 215 to share the individual championship.
Leading UTEP was Martin Simonsen, who tied for eighth place, shooting 219 (73-71-75), just four strokes behind the individual leaders. Ryan Fioretti tied for 45th place (77-78-81-236), Jerry Castrellon finished 48th (70-85-83-238), Jacob Loya tied for 50th place (80-84-76-240) and Devin Miertschin withdrew from the tournament with a back injury after shooting 78 and 83 in the first two rounds.
The Miners will continue their spring season at the National Invitational Tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Tucson.
