UTEP Goes to Work in Houston
The UTEP football team arrived in Houston Saturday afternoon and had its first workout in H-town on Sunday morning in preparation for this week's EV1.net Houston Bowl.
The Miners (8-3) will face Big 12 North champion Colorado (7-5) at 3:30 p.m. CST (2:30 p.m. MST) on Wednesday at Reliant Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
UTEP players and staff have kept busy since arriving in Houston. On Saturday night, the team enjoyed Christmas dinner at the JW Marriott Hotel. After dinner, UTEP players sang Christmas carols and were paid a special visit by Santa Claus, who bore an uncanny resemblance to head coach Mike Price. The Miners received their bowl gifts, including MP3 players and commemorative watches.
On Sunday morning, the Miners went back to work with a 16-period, two-hour practice at Rice University. UTEP's next practice will be on Monday morning at 9 a.m. CST at Rice, and is open to the public.
UTEP and Colorado players, coaches and staff were treated to a barbecue lunch on Sunday at Reliant Center. On Sunday night, the Miners will attend a players' party at Dave & Buster's, while UTEP coaches will dine with their Colorado counterparts at selected Landry's restaurants around the city.
