UTEP-Marshall Game Sold Out
Saturday’s UTEP Homecoming football game versus Marshall is sold out, university athletic officials have announced.
It is UTEP’s first sellout in the 51,500-Sun Bowl since Nov. 11, 2000, when an overflow crowd of 53,304 witnessed the Miners’ 38-21 win over Rice. Seating capacity in the Sun Bowl has since been lowered from 52,000 to 51,500 due to the soccer sizing of the stadium.
It also marks the first time a UTEP football home game has sold out a day in advance.
Saturday’s audience of 51,500 will be the fourth-largest for a Miner game in the venue. UTEP drew 52,247 and 52,085 fans for games versus New Mexico State and Fresno State, respectively, in 2000.
UTEP’s average home attendance for the 2005 season will climb to 49,161 through three games. The record average season attendance of 44,715 was established in 2000.
Fans are encouraged to buy tickets early for the Miners’ remaining three home games against Tulsa (Nov. 5), Texas Southern (Nov. 12) and UAB (Nov. 19). The UTEP ticket center number is (915) 747-5234. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Gameday hours are 10 a.m-4 p.m.
