May 6, 2013
UTEP Safety DeShawn Grayson has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Grayson will be the second UTEP player and safety for the Steelers, following Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith.
Overall Grayson becomes the fifth Miner to come to terms with an NFL team after the draft, joining Eloy Atkinson (Tennessee), Michael Edwards (Cleveland), Drew Thomas (St. Louis) and Darren Woodard (St. Louis).
Grayson (6-0, 205-pounds) started in all twelve games last season. He led the Miners with eight pass breakups and was also third on the team with 80 tackles.
A captain, he also earned 2012 honorable-mention All-Conference USA accolades.
