Nathan Jeffery Shines in UTEP's First Spring Scrimmage

EL PASO - Nathan Jeffery ran for 73 yards and had a 61-yard touchdown reception, highlighting UTEP's first scrimmage of the spring on Friday in the Sun Bowl. The scrimmage lasted roughly 70 plays and was just under an hour. Jeffery, UTEP's leading rusher in 2012, carried a team-high nine times that included a 51-yard run. Autrey Golden was also impressive, covering 24 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns. Carson Meger and Blaire Sullivan split time at quarterback, as the Miners ran through 11-on-11 drills, and red zone and fourth down situations. Meger completed 9-of-17 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns while Sullivan finished 14-of-22 for 155 yards and an interception. Sophomore tight end Craig Wenrick caught three passes for 47 yards including two grabs for touchdowns as 13 players had a reception. Defensively, CJ Haley picked off a pass from Sullivan, and Germard Reed and Anthony Puente registered a sack. AJ Ropati led the defense with six tackles. The Miners are off for spring break and resume practice on Monday, March 25th. The remainder of the schedule follows.
