EL PASO, TexasSenior QB Nick Lamaison threw for 300 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to lead the UTEP football team to a 41-28 victory over NM State in the Sun Bowl Saturday evening. The Miners (1-2) came out clicking on all cylinders, vaulting to a 27-0 lead with 10 minutes to play in the second quarter. UTEP scored on each of its first four possessions, and the Aggies (1-2) were fighting an uphill battle the rest of the way. NM State managed a pair of touchdowns down the stretch to make the final score close after UTEP bolted to a 41-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Jordan Leslie had a huge night with seven catches for a career-high 147 yards and a score, while Mike Edwards registered five catches for 86 yards and a TD. Autrey Golden carried the load on the ground with 12 attempts for 69 yards in replacing the injured Nathan Jeffery. Josh Bell also was a factor with nine rushes for 30 yards while finding the end zone twice. Andrew Manley overcame a slow start to connect on 20-of-47 throws for 290 yards and three scores, with two of the touchdown tosses coming in the final 6:25 of the contest. The Miners are now 7-2 against the Aggies under head coach Mike Price. They have posted four consecutive wins over NMSU for the first time since a string of six victories in a row from 1986-91.
Price tied Mike Brumbelow for second place on UTEP's all-time coaching list with 46 wins.
