Patrick Walsh is in his first year as an offensive graduate assistant with the Miners. He comes to El Paso after a one-year stint as the tight ends coach at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. Under Walsh's tutelage, Brian Taylor earned honorable mention All-Conference honors a year ago.

Walsh spent the previous season (2010) on the coaching staff at Foothill College, his alma mater in Los Altos Hills, Calif., where he served as defensive line coach and special teams coordinator. Walsh coached three defensive linemen who earned Division I scholarships while at Foothill College, as well as three first team All-Conference players. The Owls led the Northern California Conference in punt return yards under Walsh's direction.

Walsh split his college playing days at Foothill College (2005-07) and Sacramento State (2008-09). He started a combined 32 games in the offensive line during his college career, including 22 at center and 10 at guard. He earned first team All-State and honorable mention All-American accolades at Foothill College, and was also a two-time first team All-Conference pick. He received an Associates in Arts degree in Physical Education Human Performance from Foothill College in 2008, and added his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Sacramento State in 2010.

Walsh's uncle on his father's side is Tim Walsh, the head coach at Cal Poly. His grandfather was the late Jack Elway, a highly successful college head coach from 1976-88. Walsh's uncle on his mother's side is NFL Hall of Famer John Elway.
