A four-year letterwinner for the Miners from 2003-06, Andy Smith will be helping out the UTEP coaching staff this season.

Smith appeared in 33 games over the last four years, including all 24 contests as a junior and senior. A reserve offensive lineman his first three seasons at UTEP, Smith made five starts at left guard as a senior. The Miners averaged 27.8 points and 363.6 yards of offense in Smith's five starting assignments, despite facing three teams that were bowl-eligible at season's end (SMU, Houston and Tulsa) during that stretch.

He was a three-year member of the varsity team at Giddings High School in his hometown of Giddings, Texas.

Smith received his bachelor's degree in history with a minor in criminal justice from UTEP in December, 2006. He is pursuing a master's degree in higher education administration.
