Twenty-five past and present Miners will earn their diplomas on Saturday, increasing the total for the 2011 calendar year to 63.

Demetrious Maxie is in his second stint with the Miners, joining the coaching staff for the 2010 season. He works with the linebackers and defensive line. Maxie was a two-year starting linebacker at UTEP from 1993-94 after transferring from Long Beach Community College. He totaled 95 tackles, including five for losses, with four sacks during that span. After leaving El Paso, Maxie spent 14 seasons playing professionally between the CFL, AFL and NFL, winning a total of four championships in Canada. Three of the championships were as a player, with the fourth coming as assistant director of player personnel for the Calgary Stampeders. He and his wife, Mari, have a son, Dominic, and a daughter, Miranda. Maxie is pursuing a degree in Sociology from UTEP, which he will earn in December 2011.
