UTEP's Williams Named Co-Conference USA Rookie of the Week

UTEP junior forward Jeremy Williams was named the co-Conference USA Rookie of the Week on Monday, sharing the honor with UCF freshman guard Marcus Jordan. Williams averaged 14.0 points and made 10-of-13 shots for the week as UTEP lost in overtime to 20th-ranked Mississippi and routed Alcorn State, 101-41. Saturday against Alcorn State, he poured in his Division I high of 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 shooting from the line. His previous best was 18 points at Baylor during the 2006-07 season when he played for Colorado. Williams added six rebounds, an assist and two steals in 20 minutes versus the Braves. Earlier in the week, he was 4-for-5 from the floor in 16 minutes against Mississippi, finishing with nine points, a rebound, an assist, a block and two steals. Williams came off the bench for both games as he has in every game this season despite averaging 12.6 points per outing. This is his first Rookie of the Week honor.
