After knocking off Mercer, 87-74, for its first win of the Tim Floyd era on Sunday, the UTEP basketball team will host Western Carolina on Saturday in another Legends Classic Regional Round game.

All tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling 747-5234. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the Miner women, who will face Eastern New Mexico at 6:05 p.m.

The Catamounts bring a 1-1 mark to El Paso and are playing their third road game in as many starts. Western Carolina dropped a 69-64 decision in its opener at Clemson on Nov. 12 before winning at DePaul, 69-64, on Tuesday. The Catamounts have three guards with double figure scoring averages -- junior Harouna Mutombo (14.5 ppg), freshman Trey Sumler (12.0 ppg) and senior Mike Williams (11.5 ppg). Williams is a long-time teammate of UTEP senior center Claude Britten. Both natives of Baton Rouge, La., Britten and Williams played AAU ball together before teaming at Genesis One Christian School in Mendenhall, Miss.

Western Carolina was 22-12 a year ago and ended its season with a 90-88 loss at Marshall in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Catamounts have two starters and seven lettermen back from that squad, but lost their top two scorers in Brandon Giles (11.9 ppg) and Jake Robinson (11.7 ppg).

The Catamounts are under the direction of Larry Hunter, who has compiled 582 wins in 30+ seasons as a head coach to rank among the active Division I leaders.

UTEP will take on I-10 rival NM State on Tuesday (Nov. 23) at 7:05 p.m. in the Haskins Center, marking the 200th meeting between the Miners and the Aggies.

The Miners will join Georgia Tech, Michigan and Syracuse in the championship rounds of the Legends Classic Nov. 26-27 in Atlantic City, with HDNet providing national coverage of all the games.
