Matt Korcheck, a skilled 6-9 post player from Tucson, became the fourth high school star to sign a national letter of intent with the UTEP basketball team on Thursday.

Korcheck joins three heralded Texas preps who inked NLIs on Wednesday - 6-10 center John Bohannon (Lancaster), 6-6 forward Darrious Curry (Houston) and 6-0 guard Jamison Sterns (Waxahachie).

Korcheck is rated the no. 29 center in the country and a three-star recruit by Scout.com.

The 210-pound Korcheck is entering his senior year at Sabino High School. He averaged 11.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.5 blocks as a junior, earning first team All-Kino Region accolades. He shot 56 percent from the floor. Korcheck's team won the Desert West Classic in Tucson last season.

He was a second team All-Region selection as a sophomore. Korcheck also plays for the Tucson Heat summer club team.

"Matt is a combination power forward/center who will bring a post presence and shot-blocking ability to our team," UTEP coach Tony Barbee said. "He can score inside and has range on his jump shot out to 15 or 16 feet. We're really excited to have him join our program, both as a player and as a person."

"Matt has a terrific frame with extremely long arms and is very quick off the floor," said ESPN analyst Joel Francisco. "His frame is slight right now and he'll need to pack on some muscle, but the upside is quite evident. He runs effortlessly and has a tremendous knack for being around the ball. He gets numerous tip-ins and has excellent timing on the defensive end."

The Miners will host Texas Southern in their regular season opener on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
