Sept. 30, 2013

Due to new NCAA legislation, the start of UTEP basketball practice comes two weeks earlier than usual this year, and the Miners will have their first workout of the season on Tuesday in the Foster Stevens Basketball Center.

The Miners return five of their top seven scorers and their top four rebounders from last year's squad that increased its overall (14 to 18) and conference (seven to 10) win totals substantially from the previous season.

UTEP has 15 players on its 2013-14 roster, including returnees John Bohannon, C.J. Cooper, Cedrick Lang, McKenzie Moore, Jalen Ragland, Hooper Vint, Julian Washburn and walk-on Tyler Tafoya. Newcomers include Josh Brown, Jake Flaggert, Vince Hunter and Matt Willms. Rounding out the roster are walk-ons Tevin Caldwell, Victor Mbachu and Darnell Vandivort (nephew of former Miner Parker Vandivort). Caldwell is a transfer from Cochise College and Mbachu is a transfer from Angelina College.

UTEP will hold its annual Orange and White scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Don Haskins Center. Admission is free. The Miners' exhibition opener is on Saturday, Nov. 2 versus Southeastern Oklahoma State, with the regular season tipping off a week later (Nov. 9) against Loyola New Orleans.

UTEP will host the Conference USA Championships March 11-15 at the Don Haskins Center.
