UTEP's Culpepper Repeats as Conference USA Player of the Week

Feb. 22, 2010

UTEP junior guard Randy Culpepper was appointed the Conference USA Player of the Week for the second week in a row, and the third time in five weeks, on Monday.

Culpepper scored 29 points in 30 minutes as UTEP set a school record by winning its 10th straight conference game, 78-70, at Tulsa on Saturday. It was only the Miners' third win in their last 14 games at Tulsa. Culpepper was 10-for-18 from the field, 3-for-7 from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe while adding three rebounds, two assists and three steals. He scored 14 of UTEP's last 23 points as the Miners fended off the Golden Hurricane, which whittled a 20-point second half deficit down to seven twice in the final eight and a half minutes. Culpepper's 29 points marked the most scored against Tulsa this season. This is his third C-USA Player of the Week honor this season and fourth of his career.

UTEP has now had the Conference USA Player of the Week in four of the last five weeks, including Derrick Caracter's selection on Feb. 1. Culpepper was honored previously on Jan. 25 and Feb. 15.
