Bogdan Captures All-America Honors

Running under frigid conditions, UTEP sophomore Mircea Bogdan placed 22nd at the 2003 NCAA Cross Country Championships to gain All-America honors on Monday at the Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa.

Bogdan ran the 10k race in 30:03.3 to become the 44th male All-American in cross country at the school and the first since Damian Kallabis did so in 1996.

Colorado's Dathan Ritzenhein was the champion out of 254 runners. He crossed in 29:14.1.

Stanford won the men's title in convincing fashion with 24 points, just nine points from perfection. Wisconsin was a distance second, scoring 174 points.

UTEP's Alba Garcia took 81st out of 252 runners on the women's side. Garcia ran the 6k race in 21:08.6.

Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina took the NCAA title in 19:30.4

Stanford also took the women's team crown with 120 points. The Cardinal held off BYU with 128 points.
