Kimaiyo Named 2011 Mountain Region Athlete of the Year

EL PASO – Junior Risper Kimaiyo has been named the 2011 Mountain Region Athlete of the Year announced the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Wednesday.

Kimaiyo became the first woman in school history to win back-to-back cross country regional titles. The All-American finished first at the meet with a time of 20:35, placing 18 seconds ahead of BYU’s Morgan Haws. The junior has claimed five crowns this season.

Kimaiyo along with Elkana Rotich, will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships scheduled for Monday, Nov. 21.
