Miners set to Compete at First Home Opener

El Paso - The UTEP cross country team is set to host the 28h Annual Lori Fitzgerald Invitational on Friday Sept.13 at the Chamizal Memorial National Park.

The women’s race is scheduled to get underway at 5:30 p.m. (MT), followed by the men’s race at 6:15 p.m.

Sophomore All-American runner Anthony Rotich is prepared to lead the Miners once again, after a stellar opener at the Lobos Invitational, which garnered him C-USA Athlete of the Week honors. Last week in Albuquerque N.M., the distance runner won the 5k with the time of 14:39.20. Rotich led the men’s team to a one, two and four finish at the competitive meet.

Other Miners to look out for Saturday is freshman standout Boit Cosmas , who finished second to Rotich in 14:59 Also competing for the Orange and Blue is veteran Elphas Maiyo , All C-USA second team Honoree , who finished fourth at the Lobos Invitational. The runner ran 15:31, his fastest opener since competing.

El Paso Native Laura Delgado is set to compete in yet another Lori Fitzgerald Invitational , as the runner has competed in three.
