UTEP's Onakoya Wins Nigerian National Championship

UTEP sprinter Abiola Onakoya captured the Nigerian national title in the men's 400 meters on Thursday with a time of 45.9 seconds. The meet was held in Calabar, Cross-Rivers State of Nigeria.
Former Miner All-American Blessing Okagbare took first place in the women's 100 meters at the same meet with a time of 11.1 seconds.
A native of Ijebu Ode, Nigeria, Onakoya just completed his sophomore campaign with the Miners. His previous top time in the 400 during the 2012 outdoor season was 46.08 seconds at the Conference USA Championships on May 13, where he finished second.
Okagbare was the 2010 NCAA outdoor champion in the 100 meters and long jump while competing at UTEP. She also won the Nigerian 100 in 2010.
