Memphis is the defending champion on the men's side, while Rice captured last year's women's crown. The UTEP men finished first in 2006 and second in 2007, while the women were runner-up both years.

The last time UTEP hosted C-USA Outdoors in 2006, the meet featured a thrilling finish. The Miner men won the final event of the day, the 1,600-meter relay, to score 222 points and edge out Houston (218.5 points) for the title.

The UTEP men have had 16 C-USA individual champions in just two years as a league member, and 10 individual champions on the women's side.

The Miner men are currently rated eighth nationally by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA), and the women are 10th.

This year's UTEP men are led by seven-time All-American and 15-time conference champion Mickael Hanany, who ranks first nationally in the high jump and second in the long jump. Hanany will be competing in his final home meet for the Miners this weekend. The Miner women have sophomore Blessing Okagbare, the national leader in the triple jump.
