UTEP Women Set Qualifying Times

Des Moines, Iowa – Both the women’s 4x100m relay and Janice Jackson registered qualifying in the first day of the Drake Relays.

Janice Jackson kicked off the meet on a high note as she registered a time of 13.33 in the 100m hurdles taking first in her heat and second overall in the prelims. The All-American will take to the track for the finals tomorrow at 1:36 p.m. (MT)

Continuing the success for the women was the 4x100m relay. The quartet consisting of Brianna McGhee, Janice Jackson, Aiyanna Stiverne, and Florence Uwakwe finished first in their heat with a time of 45.56 automatically qualifying them for the finals. After beating Long Beach State, Northern Iowa, Baylor, Purdue, Norte Dame, and Minnesota the squad will return to the track tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. to fight for the Drake crown.

On the field Taylor Gunn placed fourth out of 27 throws in the discus. The junior recorded a season-best throw of 49.98m (164-00). She will take to the field once more for the Orange and Blue tomorrow at 8 a.m. in the women’s hammer throw.

Leading the men on the field was Brandon Moss. The sophomore posted a personal-best leap of 7.44m (24-05.00) in the long jump. The jumper finished eighth out of 31 athletes overall.
