Miners Post National Marks at Texas Relays

Austin, Texas – The Miners concluded a full day of action at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and dominated the track at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Highlighting the second day of action for the Orange and Blue was Anthony Rotich. The national champion conquered the 3,000m steeplechase with a first place finish of 8:38.68. The All-American’s performance not only outdid professional athletes Matt Cleaver and Austin Bussing but also garnered him the No.1 spot on the TFRSS ranking list.
Also garnering national recognition for the distance squad was Elphas Maiyo. The junior placed third in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:30.30, ranking him 12th in the nation.
In the 400m hurdles prelims, junior transfer Roberto Camacho delivered a qualifying time of 52.42. The hurdler will return to the track for the final round tomorrow at 5:50 p.m. (MT).
On the women’s side Jallycia Pearson took ninth in the heptathlon with a personal best of 5,376 points. The junior recorded a leap of 5.47m (17-11.35) in the long jump and a toss of 36.37m (119-04) in the javelin throw. Pearson concluded the multi-event with a fifth place finish of 2:18.45 in the 800m run.
Transfer Anna-Kay James represented the Miners in the 400m hurdles prelims with a recorded a time of 1:03.89. Although her time was not enough to qualify for the finals, James will return to the track tomorrow morning for the 100m hurdles prelims 8:35 a.m.
