EL PASO – UTEP’s Blessing Okagbare has been added to The Bowerman watch list presented to the nation’s top collegiate track and field athlete by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Okagbare and Hampton’s Francena McCorory join an elite selection of athletes that include last year’s finalist Porscha Lucas from Texas A&M. The tandem is credited for two national records, a collegiate record and two NCAA Championship meet records. Collectively, the group of ten accounts for 11 NCAA titles and 11 collegiate-leading marks, Okagbare is the only athlete on the list to have claimed two titles at last weeks NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Bowerman Advisory Board appointed four of its members to comprise The Bowerman Women’s Watch Committee and another four of its members to make up The Bowerman Men’s Watch Committee. The committee will release its next update on Tuesday, April 6. The three men and three women finalists will be named on July 13.
