Wilson Earns Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year Honors

New Orleans, La. – Freshman Nickevea Wilson was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mountain Region Field Athlete of the Year on Monday.

Competing in her first indoor season, the jumper is already one of four freshmen to earn a spot in the national polls in the triple jump. Wilson is ranked 16th in thenation in the triple jump with a mark of 12.92m (42-04.75) registered at the Conference USA Championships, where the newcomer claimed the title by more than a foot.

The freshman opened the season in the triple jump at the New Mexico Classic and posted aleap of 12.52m (41-01.00) taking third place overall. Wilson also recorded a season-best jump of 5.65m (18-06.50) in the long jump earlier this year at the Cherry and Silver Invitational.
