Miners Set to Compete at Texas A&M Invitational

El PASO – The UTEP track and field team will be competing at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas.
The meet will be the last for the Miners before heading into the 2011 Conference USA Indoor Championships. The squad will be taking on Alabama, Baylor, Missouri, TCU and USC at the Gillian Indoor-McFerrin Athletic Center. C-USA teams entered include Rice and Houston.
Saturday’s competition for the Miners will begin at 12 p.m. with Donovant Grant and Andres Estrada in the men’s long jump and wraps up around 5 p.m. with the men’s triple jump. The women’s 60m hurdles prelims will start at 12 p.m.
Running in the women’s 60m dash will be senior Endurance Abinuwa, Yolanda Suggs and Magen Del Pino. Abinuwa has already recorded the nations 11th fastest time in the 60m with a season-best time of 7.35 posted at the Blue and Orange Opener.
The All-American will be participating in the women’s 400m dash and the 4x400m relay. The women’s relay team is ranked third in the Mountain Region with a time of 3:47.45 (Suggs, Stewart, Bower, Abinuwa) registered at the Husker Invitational.
Representing the Miners in the women’s 60m hurdles will be Janice Jackson, Marine Menez and Samantha Sharper. Jackson holds the No. 2 spot in the 60m hurdles in Mountain Region as she clocked in a time of 8.48 at the Cherry and Silver Invitational.
On the men’s side Anthony Wright will be running the 60m dash and the 200m dash. The junior has a stellar showing last week posting the 10th best time (6.78) in school history in the men’s 60m.
2011 C-USA Cross Country Champion, Justice Chirchir will be competing in the mile run and the 3,000m run. Chirchir crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 4:13.85 in the 3,000m at the Husker Invitational.
