EL PASO - The UTEP track and field team will return to action this weekend at the 37th Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational at the Devaney Center Indoor Track.
The Miners will be going up against 12 other Division I teams during the two-day meet. The men's and women's combined events will start the action on Friday at noon, while the women's weight throw will be the first field event at 5 p.m. (CT) and the first running event will be at 6 p.m. with the women's 60-meter hurdle prelims. The men’s shot put will be first on Saturday at noon.
Senior Endurance Abinuwa recorded an impressive performance at the Cherry and Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The All-American posted the nations 22nd fastest time in the 200m with a time of 23.76. Abinuwa also holds the eighth best time in the nation in the women’s 60m dash clocking in a time of 7.35 in the Miners season opener.
The Nigerian native will be participating in the women’s 60m dash, 400m dash and the 4x400m relay at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Sophomore Janice Jackson leads the women’s hurdle team as she registered a time of 8.46 in the 60m hurdles at the Cherry and Silver Invitational. Jackson ranks second in mountain region for the women’s 60m hurdles. The Jamaican native will be running the women’s 60m hurdles and the 200m dash at the meet.
On the men’s side Matt Dudley will be representing the Miners in the men’s shot put on Saturday. The El Paso native holds the No. 2 spot in the Mountain Region in the shot put for his performance at the Orange and Blue Opener where he posted a mark of 16.95m (55-07.50).
Senior Justice Chirchir has recorded two bronze finishes this season in the men’s mile run and 3,000m run. The Kenyan native clocked in a time of 4:16.44 in the mile at the Blue and Orange Opener. Chirchir will be kicking off the running events on Saturday at 12 p.m. with the mile run.
Wrapping up the competition will be the men’s 4x400m relay at 4:20 p.m. The men’s team took first-place at the Cherry and Silver Invitational posting a season-best mark of 3:16.31.
