Miners Conclude First Day of Action in Albuquerque

Albuquerque, N.M. – The UTEP track and field team wrapped up the first day of action at the Cherry & Silver Invitational in the Albuquerque Convention Center on Friday.
Leading the Miners was Anthony Rotich as he secured his second crown of the season. The junior finished first in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:17.33 ranking him third in the nation.
Also claiming a medal on the distance side was Cosmas Boit. The freshman captured bronze in the 600m run with a time of 1:20.29. Teammate Daniel Tarango followed close behind with a mark of 1:20.99 finishing seventh overall.
On the sprints side, Abiola Onakoya placed tenth out of 61 athletes in the 200, dash with a finish of 21.49.
Competing for the first time this season Carnell Horn finished third in the 400m dash unseeded with a time of 48.55. James Bias placed sixth in the event with a time of 49.29 and Roberto Camacho finished seventh with a post of 49.49.
On the field the Miners were represented by Brandon Moss and Carlos Hernandez, who both garnered top-ten finishes. Moss finished sixth in the long jump with a mark of 7.33m (24-00.75) and Hernandez posted a mark of 2.10m (6-10.75) finishing seventh overall in the high jump.
