EL PASO, TexasBlessing Okagbare picked up her sixth All-American honor of her career in day two of the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

The junior completed the first of three events she is scheduled to participate in throughout the week. With a mark of 6.18m (20-03 ½) in the women’s long jump, Okagbare placed eighth in the field.

 

In the preliminary race of the men’s 200-meter dash, Anderson Mutegi was an automatic qualifier to the semifinals with a time of 20.79. A little over an hour later, Mutegi recorded a time of 20.87 in the semifinals to end his bid into Saturday’s final.

 


 

 

Senior All-American Dominic Tanui saw his collegiate career come to an end in the men’s 800-meter run semifinal. Tanui ran a season-best time of 1:47.91 but it wasn’t enough as he finished 12th in the semifinal race.

 

Four Miners return to the John McDonnell Field tomorrow for more NCAA Championship action. Okagbare will take the field in the triple jump qualifying round (2 p.m. MST) and the track in the 100m final (6:35 p.m. MST). Dimitrios Fylladitakis will kick off action at noon in the hammer throw, while javelin throwers Anna Wessman (4:30 p.m. MST) and Alex van der Merwe (6:30 p.m. MST) will take part in their designated finals.
