Abinuwa Post National Time in Lubbock

Lubbock, Texas – Endurance Abinuwa clocks in the 19th-fastest time in the nation in the 400m at the Texas Tech Red Raider Open on Saturday.

The senior took silver in the event posting a time of 52.85 finishing behind national champion Jessica Beard. This was the first time that Abinuwa competed in the 400m this outdoor season. The Nigerian native now holds the No. 1 spot in the Conference USA performance list in the 400m.

Laura Macauley returns to the field after suffering an injury and claims second place in the women’s javelin with a mark of 44.55m. This is the seniors’ second meet of the season and will be competing at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.

Freshman’s Taylor Gunn and Krystal Flemings took first and second in the hammer throw with throws of 43.71m and 41.53m, respectively. Gunn also participated in the discus throw and posted a season-best mark of 50.56m finishing second overall.

On the men’s side, Elkana Rotich crossed the finish line first in the 1,500m with a season-best of 3:50.57.

On the field Xavier Baker and Donovant Grant represented the Miners in the high jump and claimed second and third place overall.

El Paso native, Matt Dudley competed in the discus throw and finished fourth with a mark of 53.78m. Professional Athlete Jason Young claimed first place with a throw of 62.71m.

The Miners will face their toughest challenge yet as they prepare for the 2012 C-USA Outdoor Championships on May 11-13.
