Jackson Takes Third at Drake Relays

Des Moines, Iowa – In a photo finish sophomore Janice Jackson finishes third in the women’s 100m hurdles at Drake Relays.

Jackson posted a time of 13.55 in the hurdles finishing closely behind nationally ranked No. 19 Brittany Hyter (Arkansas) and No. 17 Morgan Snow (Texas).

The women’s 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay kicked off the last day of Drake Relays on Saturday. The team clocked in a time of 57.49 earning them a spot in the finals. Running in the relay was Janice Jackson, Aeisha McDavid, Marine Menez and Samantha Sharper.

The squad participated in the 4x100m shuttle hurdle finals and was disqualified when one of the Miners tripped on the second to last hurdle.

The women’s 4x100m relay (Jackson, Yolanda Suggs, Menez and Magen Del Pino) took part in the finals taking on Texas, Arkansas, Baylor, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Mississippi and Cincinnati. UTEP finished fourth in the race posting a time of 45.57.

On the men’s side, Demetris Elia was the only Miner on the men’s team competing individually. Elias recorded a mark of 55.57m (182-04) in the hammer throw claiming 19th-place overall. 14504

The men’s 1600 sprint medley relay team including Anthony Wright, Kristian Dillard, Curtis Kock and Ramon Garcia posted a time of 3:24.30 finishing ninth overall at the meet.

The UTEP track and field team will head to Conference USA Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 11 in New Orleans, La.
